BONO

I have to admit I'm really sick of hearing U2 music in churches.

Why do Christians glorify Bono? Before I came to Christ in 2002, I was a fan of U2 and have seen them twice in concert during the 90s. And from knowing their lyrics and even how they portrayed themselves in concert, there wasn't much Christian about them that I ever witnessed.

This video takes a hard look at U2's lyrics and the songs they choose to cover. This is a must see for anyone who thinks "I still haven't found what I'm looking for" is a Christian song or is glorying Christ:

Matthew 7:15-16
15 "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

Did you read the comments below that Godtube video exposing Bono and u2?
Just as one post said, U2 fans are tripping over themselves, trying to explain that Bono is still a Christian, because he does charity work, etc etc and are demanding only those without sin can cast the first stone,no one can judge them , etc...

People are very very blind when it comes to following their rock IDOLS over what is the Truth.

It makes me sad so many remain deceived, but also makes me angry, because they are the types that will kill real Believers in Christ- for not worshipping the False Prophet and False christ when they appear one day.

I was quite fascinated with the responses from BONO fans. I guess they're mixed up and believe that's it's good deeds that gets us to Heaven?

Many will be deceived in this day that we live.

Like you, I feel like U2's Christian-Cult following is grotesque. There is way too much idol worship at the feet of Bono.

That being said, I believe his (& the other band members') faith is sincere. I've read several books and seen many interviews chronicling their faith journey.

The real problem with their story is the absence of "the church" in their lives. They've had little healthy mentorship, which has led to some misdirected discipleship. Let's face it, if they are reborn Christians, they're immature Christians. Does that make them "false prophets?" That'll be for the King to decide. It's not our place.

And, no, "good deeds" doesn't get us to Heaven, but faith without works is a sign that our faith is dead. Unfortunately, there are more Christians that fall into that bucket than we'd like to imagine.

In my opinion, Oprah is FAR MORE DANGEROUS than Bono!

Great points, Bart.

I guess what I'm concerned about it what BONO will do with his control over his fans in the coming days? Will he make a dark turn down Oprah lane or just cont like he is now?

I had not really thought about the other band members beliefs where, that's good to know.

The big difference I see between Bono and Oprah is that it is CRYSTAL CLEAR that Oprah does not believe that Jesus is "the way, truth and life." She sees him as "a" way or "part of" the way.

Bono's message often comes across as ecumenical, but I read more politics into his agenda. He's smart that he is working to be all-inclusive in his poverty and AIDS initiatives. He'll get more bang for his bravado that way. Nonetheless, he is bang-on with his assessment that Christ's Church should be at the forefont of this battle.

In many ways Bono's message is very Kingdom focussed and parallels well with Jesus's Sermon on the Mount.

At the end of the day, "worshipping" Bono or Oprah or Joel Osteen or Hulk Hogan or Tony Romo are ALL WRONG. Only one Man is deserving of our worship; and He happens to be God.

I believe that Bono is a type of antichrist (there are many antichrists in the world). For the most part only wordly, unconverted, emergent types that have a form of godliness but deny the power consider him to be a "christian".

Streetpreacher - very compelling blog you have here. We share very similar backgrounds. I became a Christian in 1990, but was a big fan of Texas thrash and hardcore: Angkor Wat, Slayer SA, Watchtower (don't know if they were from TX, but I think Ron Jarzombek was). Anyway, I also share many of your feelings on Bono and Emergent and have discussed much of this on my blog.

I would love to talk to you sometime. Contact me at Jslimbaugh@aol.com or tozerscarpet.blogspot.com.

Mind if I link you??

Blessings,
Jason

Nice job on this post, bro. It shows that we as believers need to exercise discernment. It is Biblically right for us to judge with righteous judgment, to beware of false teachers (which implies identification of them). I'm sure Bono has faith, but many will stand before the Lord on the day of judgment and say "Lord, Lord, did we not cast out demons and do mighty works?" Sadly, He will say to them, "Depart from Me, I never knew you."
